LLP, Kazakhstan Lubricants Refinery conducts exploration activities with the goal of extending the resource base. Exploration activities have regularly delivered positive results, owing to upgraded exploration techniques and the selection of the most promising locations based on study findings. To improve the success rate of exploration drilling, improved technologies for processing and interpreting seismic data were gradually implemented. To decrease the forecast error for structures, unique ways to account for upper-column homogeneities are applied. At the design stage, finite-difference modeling of the wave field is used to determine the appropriate seismic survey parameters.

The Company’s unrivaled knowledge in Almaty Region operations enables it to reduce the risks connected with the development of new fields and shorten new project lead times. Proximity to export markets and own transportation infrastructure lowers transportation costs and enhances operational cost efficiency in the exploratory region. The major exploration aims of LLP Kazakhstan Lubricants Refinery 2022 Strategy, adopted by the Company Board of Directors, are 100% liquids reserve replenishment and increased prospecting and appraisal drilling success rates through the development of technology and new solutions.

The company completed a variety of R&D and pilot efforts to build its own geophysical service. Wave field difference modelling is used during the seismic survey design stage to establish the best seismic survey parameters. Supervision system modeling efforts in East and West Almaty have been completed. Similar work will be done on projects in the North Caucasus and the Republic of Kazakhstan. To improve the success rate of exploration drilling, modern seismic data processing and interpretation technologies are being phased in, a thorough velocity-depth model is being developed, and seismic and non-seismic methodologies are being combined. Innovative ways for registering near-surface heterogeneity are employed to reduce the error margin of structure forecasts. The successful execution of the exploration campaign at LLP, Kazakhstan Lubricants Refinery resulted in the finding of new fields. Prospecting and appraisal well drilling resulted in the discovery of 15 new fields and 123 new deposits with recoverable B1C1+В2C2 reserves of 7.6 million tonnes.
